Today marks a significant milestone as *Bloodborne* celebrates its 10th anniversary, and fans are commemorating this occasion with the latest "Return to Yharnam" community event. Launched on March 24, 2015, by FromSoftware for the PlayStation 4, *Bloodborne* quickly established itself as a masterpiece, further solidifying the Japanese developer's reputation as one of the greatest in the gaming industry. The game received widespread critical and commercial acclaim, leading many to anticipate a sequel or at least a remastered version. However, despite fans' continuous pleas for more *Bloodborne* content, Sony has yet to deliver a current-gen remaster, a sequel, or even a next-gen update to bring the game to 60fps officially. This lack of follow-up remains one of the most perplexing decisions in the video game industry.

Earlier this year, Shuhei Yoshida, a PlayStation legend who has since left Sony, offered his personal theory on why there hasn't been a *Bloodborne* follow-up. In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida emphasized that his comments were not based on insider information but his own observations. He suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the head of FromSoftware and the creative force behind *Bloodborne*, is protective of the game. Yoshida theorized that Miyazaki's busy schedule and success with projects like the *Dark Souls* series and the blockbuster *Elden Ring* might prevent him from working on *Bloodborne* himself, while he might be reluctant to let others handle it. Yoshida believes that Sony respects Miyazaki's wishes, which could explain the silence on any *Bloodborne* developments.

Miyazaki's recent projects include *Dark Souls 3*, *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and *Elden Ring*, with the latter's success leading to an upcoming multiplayer spin-off. Despite owning the *Bloodborne* IP, Miyazaki has often sidestepped questions about the game's future, hinting only that it could benefit from modern hardware. Meanwhile, fan-made efforts to enhance *Bloodborne* have faced resistance from Sony. For instance, Lance McDonald, creator of a 60fps mod for *Bloodborne*, received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment four years after releasing the mod. Similarly, Lilith Walther, who developed *Nightmare Kart* and a *Bloodborne* PSX demake, saw an old YouTube video hit with a copyright claim.

Recent advancements in PS4 emulation have allowed fans to experience *Bloodborne* at 60fps on PC, with Digital Foundry highlighting this breakthrough via ShadPS4. This development might have prompted a stronger response from Sony, though the company has yet to comment on the matter. As *Bloodborne* fans continue to wait for official updates, they've taken it upon themselves to organize community events like the "Return to Yharnam" initiative, which encourages players to start new characters and engage with the community through co-op and invasions. On this 10th anniversary, fans are once again rallying around their beloved game, perhaps the only way they can keep the spirit of *Bloodborne* alive.
