Squad Busters approaches its first anniversary, with Supercell launching its 2.0 update. This major overhaul, set for release on May 13th, aims to revitalize the game, which struggled to build a strong following since its 2024 debut. Can version 2.0 turn the tide?
Squad Busters 2.0 feels like a fresh start, as the name implies. From battle mechanics to win conditions, the game is undergoing a complete transformation.
The most significant shift is the introduction of Heroes. Players now select a Hero to lead their squad, drawn from familiar characters. If your Hero falls, the match is over.
Combat has also been revamped. Attacks no longer require pausing movement, blending motion and fighting for a faster, more intense, and unpredictable experience.
Victory conditions have been simplified. Instead of eliminating all opponents, players only need to defeat the enemy Hero. Some fans see this as a pivot toward a Brawl Stars-like format with added complexity.
Several modes, including Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder, are being removed. Older skins and progression systems are also being phased out, with Supercell offering Hero Points and other rewards as compensation.

It’s clear why Supercell is acting swiftly. Squad Busters has yet to match the success of Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.
With the first anniversary on May 29th approaching, Supercell aims to spark renewed excitement. Daily piñata events will soon begin, offering players a chance to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
