WB Games Focuses on Hogwarts Legacy Sequel

Fresh off the successful debut of Quidditch Champions this week, Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced its intention to develop a sequel to last year's blockbuster Harry Potter action RPG, Hogwarts Legacy—the top-selling game of 2023.

Anticipated Release in a "Couple of Years"

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed plans for a follow-up to the hit action RPG Hogwarts Legacy, the Harry Potter-inspired title that became 2023's best-selling game, with over 24 million copies sold since launch. According to Variety, Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels revealed the company’s intention to create a sequel during the Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference.

"Clearly, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of our top priorities a couple of years down the line," Wiedenfels stated. "That [games] business is expected to contribute significantly to our growth in the strategic outlook."

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Games’ David Haddad told Variety that the game’s replayability has been a major appeal for its audience. "Many players have returned to the game multiple times," Haddad noted. He added that the company is proud not only of unit sales and replay value, but also of how "the game brought the world of Harry Potter to life in a fresh way, letting players be themselves within its story and setting."

Haddad believes this feature truly "struck a chord" with fans and contributed to Hogwarts Legacy becoming the year's best-selling title. "That top spot is usually dominated by established sequel franchises," he said, "and we’re incredibly proud to have broken into the top tier."
