Nintendo has announced its readiness to address potential shortages for the Switch 2 launch and combat scalpers, stating: “We are making preparations.”

After sharing its latest financial results, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was questioned about how the company plans to avoid the supply issues that affected the original Switch launch in 2017.

“We will leverage all the experience we have gained so far to take every possible step against scalpers and similar challenges,” Furukawa told Japanese outlet Nikkei, as translated by VGC. “We are making preparations.”

So, what might these "preparations" include? Essentially, manufacturing a large volume of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Last year, Nintendo emphasized that producing enough units to satisfy demand is a core strategy for countering scalpers.

When the Nintendo Switch first launched in March 2017, limited supplies led to scalpers reselling the console at inflated prices. However, in July 2024, Furukawa confirmed the approach for the Switch successor will be different.

“We believe the primary measure against reselling is to manufacture enough consoles to meet customer demand, a stance that has remained consistent since last year,” Furukawa explained then.

“Beyond that, we are exploring other possible actions within legal boundaries, tailored to conditions in each region.

“While semiconductor shortages previously limited our ability to produce enough Nintendo Switch units, the supply issue has now been resolved. At present, we do not expect component shortages to significantly impact production of the successor model.”

Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where more details will be unveiled. The company will also host Switch 2 hands-on events in various cities worldwide.

In a recent statement on February 4, 2025, Furukawa also discussed declining Nintendo Switch sales, refuting the idea that customers are holding off for the Switch 2.

“We do not believe purchase hesitation is a major factor,” Furukawa noted. “We consider this a solid eighth year for the platform, though we have not yet met our target.”

Additionally, Furukawa confirmed Nintendo will continue supporting the Switch after the Switch 2 launches, “as long as there is demand.” In line with this, both Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are slated for a 2025 release on the original Switch.
