Capcom is enhancing Monster Hunter Wilds' performance before its release, focusing on reducing PC GPU requirements. A recent announcement on the game's German Twitter (X) account (January 19, 2025) highlighted performance improvements, showcasing smoother gameplay in a video featuring a hunter battling Quematrice. This improvement utilizes an updated Prioritize Framerate mode (PS5), boosting fps at the cost of some visual detail. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, aiming to lower the recommended GPU requirements.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in lowering these requirements would significantly broaden the game's accessibility. Capcom also plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help players determine optimal settings and PC compatibility.
The initial open beta (October-November 2024) revealed performance issues, including low-poly character models and frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often compromised visual quality. Capcom acknowledged these problems on November 1, 2024, stating that afterimage noise issues (with Frame Generation enabled) would be resolved in the final release, which is already in a more polished state than the beta.
A second open beta test is scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17 (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam), featuring Gypceros and a new monster. Whether these performance enhancements will be included remains to be seen.
