Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Phenomenal Debut: 1 Million Copies Sold in a Day
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has experienced a spectacular launch, achieving both critical acclaim and impressive sales figures across all platforms. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game surpassed 1 million copies sold within 24 hours of its February 4, 2025 release, significantly outperforming its predecessor's nine-day milestone.
SteamDB data reveals a concurrent player count peaking at 176,285 within a six-hour period, eclipsing KCD1's all-time high of 96,069. Furthermore, KCD2 secured a prominent 12th position among PlayStation games in the US, as featured on the PS Store homepage. OpenCritic awarded the game a "Mighty" rating, boasting an 89 score and a 97% critic recommendation rate.
Despite the largely positive reception, KCD2 has not been without its detractors. Creative Director Daniel Vávra responded publicly on Twitter (X) to several negative reviews, addressing criticisms that characterized the gameplay as tedious or overly demanding. He acknowledged the impact of these lower scores on the game's aggregate rating on OpenCritic, while also expressing his views on what he considered to be less-than-rigorous journalistic standards.
Vávra also actively engaged with online criticism targeting the game's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He challenged several Metacritic user reviews that disparaged KCD2 as a "historically inaccurate DEI game," urging fans to review the game and report any automated negative comments. He reiterated that the LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional, emphasizing the player's agency and freedom of choice within the expansive open-world medieval setting.
