Firaxis Games, the developer behind Civilization VII, has released patch 1.0.1, hot on the heels of the game's full launch. This follows an advanced access period that garnered mixed Steam reviews. The patch addresses numerous community concerns, primarily focusing on UI improvements, map variety, and the perceived absence of expected features.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, acknowledged the negative feedback but expressed confidence that the dedicated Civilization fanbase would appreciate the game more with continued play, describing the early performance as "very encouraging."

Now available to all players, patch 1.0.1 (PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck only) is the first in a series aimed at incorporating player feedback from the advanced access period. Cross-play multiplayer has been temporarily disabled to streamline PC updates, though this only affects cross-platform play between PC and console players; console-to-console and PC-to-PC multiplayer remain unaffected.

  • Fixed an issue causing shortened Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-States now become Friendly Independent Powers during Age Transitions instead of disappearing. They also start with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.

  • Future Civic is now repeatable in all Ages, with increased costs for repeated use.
  • Fixed an issue where excessive Growth bonuses resulted in negative Food needed for growth.
  • Improved Rail Network reliability for settlements connecting over water via Ports, provided the Capital has a Port or rail connection to a settlement with a Port.
  • Improved Loyalty Crisis management in the Antiquity Age, including the ability to purchase Villas during the crisis.

AI (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck)

  • AI less frequently offers high-value Cities during Peace Deals.
  • Reduced AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
  • AI considers Ideology more before declaring war or offering peace in the Modern Age.
  • Reduced AI desire for war if neither party has an Ideology.
  • Increased AI desire for war against players with opposing Ideologies.
  • Reduced AI desire for peace with players of opposing Ideologies.

Camera (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck)

  • Fixed an issue on native resolutions where the camera focused incorrectly on the minimap.

UI (Windows PC/Mac/Linux/Steam Deck)

  • Replaced the Simplified Chinese font (temporary, pending improvements).
  • Fixed an issue preventing opening the Settlement menu when clicking a non-player's Settlement Banner.
  • Fixed an issue where yield icons didn't appear on buildings after town conversion.
  • Fixed text cutoff on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
