CD Projekt Red recently shared exciting details about The Witcher 4, revealing new regions and monsters in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
Following the Game Awards 2024, a conversation between Gamertag Radio co-host Parris and The Witcher 4's director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga (December 14, 2024) shed light on the game's upcoming content. Ciri's journey will lead players to previously unexplored areas of The Continent. The village shown in the trailer is named Stromford, where a chilling ritual involving the sacrifice of young girls takes place to appease a deity.
This deity, revealed as the monster Bauk, is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a formidable and cunning adversary, a creature that instills genuine fear. Beyond Bauk, players can anticipate a diverse array of new monsters.
Kalemba expressed enthusiasm about the new locations and creatures but remained tight-lipped about specific details, promising a truly novel experience within the familiar setting of The Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP (December 15, 2024) confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond the territories explored by Geralt.
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted significant advancements in NPC development. Addressing the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, Kalemba emphasized the enhanced diversity and depth of NPCs in The Witcher 4. Each NPC will have their own unique story and life, influencing their interactions with Ciri and other characters. The close-knit community of an isolated village will be reflected in their relationships and behaviors.
CD Projekt Red is improving NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience. While details remain scarce, the enhanced NPC interactions promise a more engaging and believable world.
