Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP Surpasses 200,000 Units Sold, Proving a Resurgence for the Action Title
Released late last year, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP has reportedly exceeded 200,000 units sold, demonstrating significant player interest in this action-packed remaster. Despite initial technical hiccups and some controversy surrounding content changes, the game's sales figures clearly indicate strong demand.
Developed originally by Grasshopper Manufacture (known for the No More Heroes series), Lollipop Chainsaw casts players as a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader battling zombies. While the original developers didn't helm the remaster, Dragami Games delivered a visually enhanced version with improved gameplay features.
Months after its September 2024 launch across current and last-gen consoles, and PC, Dragami Games announced the impressive sales milestone via a tweet.
The game follows Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who uncovers her zombie-hunting heritage when her school is overrun. Players engage in intense hack-and-slash combat, utilizing Juliet's chainsaw against hordes of zombies and formidable bosses, reminiscent of titles like Bayonetta.
The original 2012 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 achieved even greater success, selling over one million copies. This initial popularity is likely attributed to the unique collaboration between Goichi Suda and James Gunn, whose contributions shaped the game's narrative.
While there's currently no news regarding potential DLC or a sequel, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP's success bodes well for remasters of cult classic games. This positive trend is further supported by the recent release of Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, bringing another Grasshopper Manufacture title to modern platforms.
