Lies of P developer Neowiz unveiled its Overture DLC during Summer Game Fest, bringing new areas, foes, bosses, characters, weapons, and the highly debated addition of two easier difficulty settings. Now, those options are becoming even more accessible as the studio prepares a "difficulty reduction" update.
As a Soulslike, Lies of P delivers a punishing challenge, particularly for newcomers drawn to its grim narrative and atmosphere. Director Jiwon Choi initially stated the team believed Soulslike games shouldn't include difficulty options and launched without them, but later reconsidered: “We wanted to ensure a broader range of players could enjoy the game."
For players tackling the Overture DLC on its "intended" Legendary Stalker difficulty, however, the experience seems more brutal than ever. The surge of discussion — both criticizing and defending the DLC's increased challenge — prompted the Lies of P subreddit to consolidate posts into a single "megathread" to manage the flood of feedback.
Steam reviews reflect similar sentiments, with one player commenting: "I’m at level 300 and shouldn’t be killed in two hits by standard enemies. The enemy placement often forces you to face multiple foes at once, which is exacerbated when any single attack can deplete half your health."
Now, following a new Lies of P Director's Letter, another round of difficulty adjustments appears imminent.
"We're carefully reviewing all [player feedback] and already determining when to implement some of your suggestions," Choi stated, as reported by Eurogamer. "Among the feedback, we are focusing most intently on the combat experience.
"We've pinpointed aspects that didn't align with our design intent. Consequently, we are evaluating various tweaks, including a reduction in difficulty. However, combat is a core pillar of Lies of P, so any revisions demand meticulous work and extensive testing." This fundamental nature may explain why Neowiz hasn't provided a timeline for the update.
We enjoyed Lies of P, giving it an 8/10 score, and Overture also earned an 8/10. "While it plays familiar notes, Lies of P: Overture is a superb expansion that meaningfully builds upon an already outstanding game," we wrote.
