Deltarune Chapter 4 is nearing completion, but a release date remains elusive. Toby Fox, the game's creator, recently shared a development update in his newsletter.
Chapter 4 Progress:
Fox confirmed that Chapter 4 is almost finished. All maps are complete, battles are playable, and the chapter is considered "basically playable" despite needing some polishing. This includes minor improvements to cutscenes, battle balancing, visual enhancements, and background additions. Three friends have already played through the entire chapter and provided positive feedback.
Challenges and Upcoming Tasks:
The simultaneous release on PC, Switch, and PS4, along with localization into Japanese, presents significant challenges, especially since this is the first major paid release since Undertale. Before release, the team must complete several tasks: testing new features, finalizing PC and console versions, Japanese localization, and thorough bug testing.
Chapter 3 and Beyond:
Chapter 3 development is finished. Interestingly, some team members have already started preliminary work on Chapter 5, creating initial map drafts and designing bullet patterns.
A Glimpse into the Future:
Although a release date remains unannounced, Fox offered a sneak peek of some content: dialogue between Ralsei and Rouxls, a character description for Elnina, and a new item called GingerGuard. He also confirmed that Chapters 3 and 4 combined will be longer than Chapters 1 and 2. Fox anticipates a smoother release schedule for future chapters once Chapters 3 and 4 are launched. While the wait continues, the growing scope and exciting previews are keeping fans engaged.
