Exciting news for fans of *Civilization 7* as dataminers have uncovered hints of a fourth, unannounced Age, and Firaxis has teased potential expansions in an interview with IGN. A full campaign in *Civilization 7* currently spans three Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Each Age concludes with an Age Transition, where players choose a new civilization, select Legacies to carry forward, and witness the evolution of the game world. This innovative system is a first for the series.

The Modern Age in *Civilization 7* ends before the Cold War, a decision confirmed by lead designer Ed Beach. He explained to IGN how Firaxis determined the game's timeline, choosing to conclude the current version at the end of World War 2. Beach highlighted the importance of historical context in designing these Ages, emphasizing a collaborative effort with senior historian Andrew Johnson to ensure a global perspective. The Antiquity Age ends around the 300 to 500 CE, reflecting the decline of major empires worldwide. The transition to the Modern Age is marked by significant revolutions challenging established monarchies, while the World Wars serve as a pivotal end to the Modern Age.

When asked about future expansions, executive producer Dennis Shirk teased the possibilities of a fourth Age, hinting at potential space exploration and modern units without confirming specifics. This tease has sparked excitement among the community, especially after dataminers found references to an "Atomic Age" in the game files, along with mentions of new leaders and civilizations. These findings align with Firaxis' history of expanding games through DLC.

In the meantime, Firaxis is addressing community feedback to improve the game's reception, which currently stands at a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick remains optimistic, believing that the dedicated *Civilization* audience will embrace the game as they spend more time with it.
