Home > News > 'We Have Not Modified It' — The Witcher 4 Director Responds to Speculation CD Projekt Changed Ciri's Face
The Witcher 4's director clarifies Ciri's in-game model: no changes made. Recent behind-the-scenes footage sparked debate about Ciri's appearance, with some fans noting differences between her look in the reveal trailer and brief close-ups at the 2:11 and 5:47 marks in the new video.
Initial reactions ranged from positive ("perfect representation of a slightly older Ciri") to negative, fueling speculation that CD Projekt had altered her design after perceived backlash. However, game director Sebastian Kalemba confirmed on social media that Ciri's in-game model remains unchanged. The variations seen are attributed to the raw, unpolished footage—lacking final animation, lighting, and camera effects—representing a pre-cinematic work-in-progress snapshot. He emphasized that a character's appearance can naturally vary across different mediums (trailers, 3D models, in-game).
This clarifies the discrepancies, highlighting the impact of post-production enhancements on the final product. The Witcher 4, the first in a new trilogy, features Ciri as the protagonist, a decision previously defended by executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga and Kalemba as a natural progression from the books and a way to explore her character's depth. Geralt voice actor Doug Cockle also expressed enthusiasm for this shift.
