The Voodoo Doll stands out as one of the safer Cursed Possessions to wield in Phasmophobia, offering a favorable balance between risk and reward. Despite changes brought by game updates, it remains a valuable tool for ghost hunters.

The primary function of the Voodoo Doll is to compel the ghost to perform actions that reveal evidence, which is achieved by inserting pins into the doll one at a time. This method is particularly useful when confronting a stubborn or silent ghost, encouraging it to manifest evidence such as EMF5 readings or Ultraviolet prints.

There are 10 pins available to insert into the doll, each triggering a potential response from the ghost. However, caution is advised as each pin insertion depletes 5% of the user's sanity. Inserting all pins could drain up to 50% of your sanity, significantly increasing the likelihood of triggering a ghost hunt.

The most critical risk involves the pin located in the doll’s heart. Inserting pins is a random process, and if you happen to insert the heart pin, it will instantly reduce your sanity by 10% and trigger a Cursed Hunt. During a Cursed Hunt, the ghost will spawn near your location and pursue you for an extended period, 20 seconds longer than typical hunts.

Despite these risks, the potential for gathering crucial evidence makes the Voodoo Doll a worthwhile tool if used with preparation and caution.

Cursed Possessions, also known as “Cursed Objects,” are unique items that can appear randomly across any map in Phasmophobia. Their appearance may vary based on difficulty settings or whether you're tackling Challenge Mode.

Unlike standard equipment, which helps locate ghosts and gather evidence with minimal risk, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate ghost behavior but at a much higher risk to your character. The decision to use these items rests with you and your team, with no penalties for choosing not to use them. Typically, only one Cursed Possession will spawn per contract, although this can be modified in Custom settings.

The game features seven different Cursed Objects, each with distinct abilities:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
