Splatoon 3 Updates Ending Has People Looking for Splatoon 4 Release

With Nintendo ceasing regular updates for Splatoon 3, speculation about a Splatoon 4 release is intensifying.

The End of an Era for Splatoon 3

Nintendo's announcement that regular content updates for Splatoon 3 will conclude has sparked excitement and conjecture. While this marks the end of regular updates, holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue. Monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches will also be released as needed.

The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

This announcement followed the September 16th conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, commemorated with a video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio. Nintendo's farewell message was simple: "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!"

Fueling Splatoon 4 Rumors

The cessation of active development on Splatoon 3, two years after its September 9th launch, has reignited rumors of a sequel. Some players believe they've discovered potential easter eggs or spoilers within the Grand Festival event, suggesting a new city setting for a future installment. One fan commented on a metropolis-like location, speculating, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others remain unconvinced, pointing out similarities to existing locations.

While no official announcement regarding Splatoon 4 exists, rumors have circulated for months, suggesting Nintendo has begun development. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, further strengthens fan belief in an imminent Splatoon 4 release.

Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels. Splatoon 3's "Past, Present, or Future" theme could potentially foreshadow a similar motif in Splatoon 4. However, until Nintendo makes an official announcement, fans will have to remain patient.
