Simu Liu Advocates for Sleeping Dogs Movie Adaptation

The film adaptation of the acclaimed video game *Sleeping Dogs* faced a setback earlier this month when it was confirmed to be canceled. However, there's a glimmer of hope on the horizon, thanks to Marvel star Simu Liu. As reported by Newsweek, Liu responded to a fan's request on X/Twitter, expressing his efforts to revive the project. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," Liu stated, signaling his commitment to the adaptation.

The project was initially announced in 2017, with martial arts icon Donnie Yen slated to star. Unfortunately, the film vanished from the radar a year later, and just weeks ago, Yen confirmed its cancellation. Reflecting on his involvement, Yen shared, "I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights. I waited for years. And I really wanted to do it. And unfortunately... I don't know. You know how Hollywood goes, right?" His comments painted a picture of the challenges often faced in the film industry.

With the project seemingly dead in the water, fans had lost hope for a continuation of the action-packed franchise set in Hong Kong. Yet, Liu's unexpected response to a random social media post has reignited interest. Whether Liu will successfully secure the rights or manage to get the film moving forward remains uncertain.

*Sleeping Dogs*, released in 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows the story of detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates one of Hong Kong's notorious Triad crime syndicates. The game received widespread acclaim, earning an 8/10 from IGN. Despite its success, no sequels were developed, leaving fans eager for more content, including a potential film adaptation.
