For years, Monster Hunter players have dreamed of a world free from gender restrictions on armor. That dream is now a reality! During the Monster Hunter Wilds Developer Stream at Gamescom, Capcom announced a highly anticipated change: all armor sets will be accessible to all hunters, regardless of gender.

"In previous Monster Hunter games, male and female armor was separate," a Capcom developer explained while showcasing starting armors. "But in Monster Hunter Wilds, that's all changing. Every character can wear any gear."

The Monster Hunter community erupted with joy, particularly among the dedicated "fashion hunters" who prioritize aesthetics alongside, or even above, raw stats. Previously, players were limited to the designs assigned to their character's gender, missing out on coveted armor simply due to its categorization.

Imagine wanting that stylish Rathian skirt as a male character, or the imposing Daimyo Hermitaur set as a female hunter, only to find it locked behind a gender barrier. This frustrating limitation often meant bulky designs for male characters and more revealing options for female characters, neither of which appealed to all players.

The issue went beyond aesthetics. Monster Hunter: World's gender change system, for example, required players to purchase vouchers after the initial free one to alter their appearance, adding a financial barrier to achieving desired looks.

While Capcom hasn't detailed specifics, the highly probable inclusion of a "layered armor" system, similar to previous games, will allow players to mix and match appearances without sacrificing stats. Combined with the removal of gendered sets, this opens up incredible possibilities for self-expression.

Beyond the gender-neutral armor, Gamescom also unveiled two new monsters for hunters to conquer: Lala Barina and Rey Dau. For a deeper dive into Monster Hunter Wilds' new features and creatures, check out the article below!
