Following his experience with Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won expressed a refreshed perspective and openness to new project ideas. At the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared insights with Eurogamer about the Souls genre's development. His admiration for FromSoftware's work is evident in the creation of Lies of P.

Choi commented on Elden Ring's influence, stating, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. It's clear they're excellent developers who consistently push boundaries, showcasing their imagination and vision. This experience motivated me to ensure the Overture DLC delivers the best possible experience."

This inspiration has led Choi to consider new directions, including the possibility of developing multiplayer games. He affirmed, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

While Choi acknowledges his appreciation for FromSoftware titles, he emphasized during a Games Radar+ interview at the 2025 GDC that his inspirations are diverse. He explained, "I'm a fan of many types of games, and I draw inspiration from a variety of experiences. I blend these into my own Lies of P experience. It's a fusion of different influences from the games I love, which I transform into something unique for Lies of P fans."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi revealed that the Overture DLC is designed to offer 15-20 hours of gameplay for experienced players, packed with numerous bosses and content originally intended for the base game's launch. He noted, "Overture is not a standalone piece but deeply interconnected with the base game. Developing this expansion was like completing the Lies of P experience, which presented its own set of challenges."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to Krat during its final haunting days, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts from the initial game due to development constraints. Choi likened this release to a Director’s Cut, suggesting it completes the game's narrative arc.

He highlighted the importance of quality, saying, "When we released the base game, we prioritized delivering the highest quality, which meant we couldn't include everything at once. The community's support after the base game's release motivated us to fulfill our vision with this expansion."

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

In an IGN interview at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not directly connect to the base game's final cutscene. While the game's ending hinted at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director’s Letter video that a sequel is in development.

However, details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce. Choi reassured fans, saying, "When we share news or media assets with you, it will be because we are ready to present it. Our focus remains on quality amidst all the pressure we've discussed before. When we share content and news, we will be fully prepared."
