Six years after Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece Hollow Knight, fans are buzzing with speculation. The game's absence from various showcases, including The Game Awards, has fueled intense anticipation. Could the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2 Direct finally bring the news?
A cryptic clue has ignited the fervor within the Hollow Knight subreddit. Team Cherry co-director William Pellen changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake, accompanied by the tweet: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This, coupled with the rumored January 16th Nintendo Switch 2 reveal (which indeed happened), sparked a frenzy of speculation.
Fans reverse-image searched the cake, tracing it back to a Bon Appétit recipe published on April 2, 2024. The significance? Nintendo confirmed the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 would air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. This led many to believe Pellen orchestrated an alternate reality game (ARG) hinting at a Silksong announcement.
The mystery deepens. Fans are analyzing Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr, and his new name, little bomey. One theory suggests "everydruidwaswr" alludes to a Silksong NPC, the Druid of the Moss Temple, while "little bomey" may reference a Southern Australian wine, aligning with Team Cherry's location.
While the initial announcement listed Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch as launch platforms, six years have passed. The question remains: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong a Switch 2 launch title? A timed exclusive? Or is this simply overzealous fan speculation?
Only time will tell. Until then, we await the April 2nd Direct and further unraveling of this intriguing online puzzle.
