World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil, a festive in-game event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. This year's celebration is enhanced by a new lore video, a collaboration between Blizzard and PlatinumWoW, delving into the rich history of this beloved holiday.
The video explores the diverse origins of Winter Veil, weaving together Dwarven myths of Greatfather Winter – a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow – and Tauren traditions of spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother. It also humorously highlights the commercialization of the holiday by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures, a parallel to real-world Christmas traditions.
Metzen the Reindeer's Misadventures
No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Blizzard creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has a history of being kidnapped, with past abductions by pirates, Dark Iron Dwarves, and even the Grinch! The video concludes with a fittingly amusing thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a nod to Metzen's voice acting).
A Successful Collaboration
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Past projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths, showcasing a commitment to enriching the WoW experience. This collaboration, alongside others like Taliesin & Evitel's returning player guides and Hurricane's cinematic trailers, demonstrates Blizzard's ongoing engagement with content creators.
Don't Miss Out!
Players have until January 5th, 2024, to participate in the Feast of Winter Veil. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, the Grunch pet, and a special gift waiting under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind – perhaps another delightful toy like last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt.
