With the success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, fans are eagerly anticipating which Bethesda game might be next in line for a remaster, with many believing Fallout 3 could be on the horizon due to leaks from 2023. Bruce Nesmith, a designer on Fallout 3, has shared insights on how Bethesda might enhance this 2008 post-apocalyptic RPG, particularly focusing on the game's gun combat which he described as "not good."
In a discussion with VideoGamer, Nesmith suggested that a Fallout 3 Remastered would feature gun combat improvements akin to those seen in Fallout 4. He highlighted the significant enhancements made to gun combat in Fallout 4, noting that it was a substantial leap forward from Fallout 3, Bethesda's first attempt at a shooter-style game.
Oblivion Remastered, crafted by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, set a high bar with its array of visual and gameplay improvements. Running at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, it also includes enhanced leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, in-game menus, new dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology. These changes have led some fans to consider it more of a remake than a remaster, though Bethesda insists on the remaster label.
Nesmith indicated that Fallout 3 Remastered would likely adopt similar enhancements as seen in Oblivion Remastered. He acknowledged that Fallout 3's combat didn't compare well to other shooters of its time but expressed optimism about integrating the improvements made in Fallout 4. He also praised Oblivion Remastered for not just matching the graphical updates of Skyrim but surpassing them, suggesting it could be dubbed "Oblivion 2.0."
Bethesda is currently juggling multiple projects, including The Elder Scrolls VI, potential expansions for Starfield, ongoing updates for Fallout 76, and the upcoming Fallout TV series, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. This busy schedule promises a rich lineup of content for fans in the coming years.
