A Long Journey to Thedas:
The development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has spanned nearly a decade, facing numerous delays. Initially conceived in 2015 (following Dragon Age: Inquisition), the project, then codenamed "Joplin," was sidelined due to BioWare's focus on Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem. Further complicating matters, the initial design clashed with the company's shift towards live-service games, resulting in a complete development halt.
Revived in 2018 under the codename "Morrison," the game was formally announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022 before settling on its current title.
Despite the challenges, the wait is almost over. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is poised to launch this fall on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Prepare for your return to Thedas!
