One of the most intricate components of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is woven into nearly every aspect of the game. Every resource you gather and every weapon you craft is influenced by it. Here's how to maximize its potential.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, there are technically three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis: This is conducted at an Alchemist's altar. It's essential for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials required for further Synthesis. Early in the game, you unlock the Atelier, which you can revisit at any time to perform Synthesis. In areas where you can build, such as cleared manabound zones and campsites, you can construct a Simple Altar to enable regular Synthesis.
  • Simple Synthesis: Accessible anytime outside of battle through the radial menu, this allows you to craft items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and various repair kits for treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the necessary resources.
  • Building Synthesis: Available only on specific plots of land through the radial menu, this involves creating storage chests and wall hangings. Although not explicitly labeled as Synthesis, the game's narrative often refers to it as such, so keep that in mind.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Synthesis in Atelier Yumia.

The most complex aspect of Synthesis is the regular form performed at altars. To craft, for instance, a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to discover the recipe while exploring the world. You can also upgrade existing gun staff recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains. Here's what you need to do at an Alchemist's altar:

  1. Select the type of gun staff you want to create.
  2. Choose Synthesis Skills if they are unlocked in the skill tree.
  3. Select the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
    • Effects Alchemy Core: Enhances the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core: Boosts the quality level of the completed item.
    • Trait Alchemy Core: Increases the number of Trait Crystal slots available for the item.
  4. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with the resources you've collected.
  5. Try to gather mana fragments to further increase the quality.
  6. Once everything is set, Synthesize the item.

The key to crafting powerful items early in *Atelier Yumia* is to unlock Synthesis Skills from the Synthesis section of the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide flat damage and quality boosts to the item and allow you to duplicate items, thus conserving resources.

You can enhance the item's quality by adding resources to all three Alchemy Cores. To do this, use the left or right bumper while filling the slots in a specific core. Collecting the mana fragments (yellow sparkles around an Alchemy Core) for all three cores will significantly boost the item's strength, which is advisable unless you're crafting a quest item.

Don't overlook the importance of using resources that match the element type of specific slots. Resources that match will have a blue outline around them. You can also organize your resources from the submenu to prioritize higher-quality ones, though you might want to focus on effects instead.

If you find the Synthesis mechanic too complex, you can opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after selecting Synthesis Skills. The game excels at creating the best possible item, enabling you to defeat the final boss on Normal difficulty without much difficulty.

That's everything you need to know to fully leverage the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia*.
