World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 introduces two exciting new race types: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races, utilizing Goblin jetpacks. Undermine, the new zone, prohibits flying, instead offering customizable D.R.I.V.E. cars and jetpack-powered challenges. Skyrocket races present unique speed and control challenges, demanding skillful navigation.
World of Warcraft: Dragonflight's Patch 11.1, "Undermined," introduces a thrilling new way to experience the game's sprawling subterranean metropolis, Undermine—the Goblin capital city. Forget flying; Undermine embraces ground-level speed and agility with the introduction of Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races. These races utilize the customizable D.R.I.V.E. car, a dynamic mount-like vehicle designed for high-speed traversal of Undermine's streets, surpassing even the speed of traditional Skyriding.
But the excitement doesn't stop there. Patch 11.1 also unveils Skyrocket races, a unique aerial challenge utilizing Goblin jetpacks. This new racing style blends aspects of traditional flying and Skyriding. Players experience a continuous, momentum-based flight, unlike the stop-and-go nature of Steady Flight, yet without the altitude loss of Skyriding. As demonstrated by WoW content creator MrGM on the Public Test Realm, collecting rings increases speed, but also reduces turning responsiveness, adding a layer of strategic difficulty.
Undermine's no-fly policy eliminates Skyriding races, but both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer Bronze, Silver, and Gold achievement rewards for completing each course. Interestingly, reverse versions of all four Skyrocket and D.R.I.V.E. Breakneck races are included, although advanced or challenge courses, typical of some Skyriding races, appear absent.
Initial player feedback on the Skyrocket races has been mixed. While some anticipate the new challenge, others express concerns about the perceived stiffness and lack of responsiveness compared to Skyriding. However, with Patch 11.1 still under development, there's ample opportunity for refinement before the races' anticipated February release.
