Warning: Spoilers for World of Warcraft: The War Within Patch 11.1, Undermined, below
World of Warcraft Patch 11.1, Undermined, delivers a shocking twist: the death of Renzik "The Shiv." This iconic Goblin Rogue, a familiar face to players since the game's launch, falls victim to Gallywix's assassination attempt targeting Gazlowe. Renzik's demise serves as a pivotal turning point in the patch's narrative.
Recent Public Test Realm access provided players with an early look at Patch 11.1's content, including new collectibles and the Undermine storyline. This campaign unfolds in the Goblin capital, where Gazlowe and Renzik attempt to thwart Gallywix's plans and secure the Dark Heart. Gazlowe's reluctance to engage in Undermine's politics clashes with Renzik's belief in his potential to improve the city. Tragically, an attack intended for Gazlowe claims Renzik's life instead, a moment documented by Wowhead lore analyst Portergauge on Twitter.
While not a central character, Renzik holds a special place in many players' memories, particularly Alliance Rogues. He was one of the original Rogue trainers in Stormwind, predating playable Goblins by six years and establishing him as one of the oldest Goblin NPCs.
His sacrifice, however, is far from meaningless. Renzik's death fuels Gazlowe's rage, igniting a revolution against Gallywix. Gazlowe unites the Trade Princes and the citizens of Undermine, leading to the Liberation of Undermine raid. Gallywix's failed attempt to eliminate Gazlowe inadvertently transforms Renzik into a martyr.
The implications extend beyond Renzik. Gallywix himself, the final boss of the Liberation of Undermine raid, faces a perilous encounter. Given the fate of most final raid bosses in World of Warcraft, Gallywix's survival seems unlikely.
