DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look at Milly Alcock Revealed

Production has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark the occasion, DC Studios head James Gunn shared a first look at Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl.

The image, posted on Bluesky, shows Alcock in her director's chair, offering a sneak peek at the actress in character.

Gunn's announcement confirms Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as the director, as previously reported. He expressed his excitement about the project's commencement at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

The film is heavily inspired by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's graphic novel of the same name. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who seeks Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel garnered a 2022 Eisner Award nomination for "Best Limited Series."

Casting announcements include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and the previously announced Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy (releasing this summer) as the second film in the rebooted DC Universe. Other upcoming DC projects include The Batman Part II (whose connection to the Gunn-verse remains unclear) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
