Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin, recently confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong is indeed real and actively progressing. This follows recent speculation sparked by a cake-related profile picture change by co-creator William Pellen. While that proved to be a misunderstanding, Griffin’s confirmation on X (formerly Twitter) assures fans that the game is still very much alive.
Putting Rumors to Rest
A recent flurry of online activity, including a profile picture change by William Pellen, fueled rumors of a Silksong ARG or even a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement. However, YouTuber fireb0rn clarified that the cake image was simply a harmless profile picture change. Griffin himself then stepped in to confirm, “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release,” ending months of speculation. This is the first official update on the game's status in over a year and a half.
A Long-Awaited Sequel
Initially revealed in February 2019 with a projected release in the first half of 2023, Silksong was delayed in May 2023. Team Cherry cited the game's increased scope and their desire for further refinement as reasons for the postponement. The delay, now nearing two years, has understandably led to some fan impatience.
The game promises a brand-new kingdom, nearly 150 new enemies, and a challenging new difficulty mode called Silk Soul. While the news of its continued development is welcome, the lack of a concrete release date has prompted mixed reactions from the fanbase, with some expressing gratitude for the update and others voicing continued frustration.
What We Know So Far
Hollow Knight: Silksong will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey to the kingdom's peak. The game will be released on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. While a release window remains unannounced, fans can expect further updates as development progresses.
