Revamped DOOM Duo: Classic Titles Get Modern Enhancements

While eagerly awaiting the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, fans are revisiting the classic DOOM games, thanks to a recent update. This update significantly enhances the technical aspects of DOOM and DOOM 2, but that's not all.

The update introduces multiplayer mod support, compatible with mods built using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. Cooperative gameplay now allows players to share items, and a spectator mode has been added for players awaiting revival. Network code for multiplayer has also been optimized, and the mod loader can now handle significantly more than the initial 100+ subscribed mods.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer extensive customization options, surpassing previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the commitment to accessibility, allowing players to adjust various aspects of the gameplay experience.

Players will have granular control over enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and other elements such as game pace, enemy aggression, and parry timing. Stratton also confirms that prior DOOM experience isn't necessary to understand the narrative of DOOM: The Dark Ages, ensuring it's enjoyable for both veterans and newcomers alike. The game's story will be accessible even to those who haven't played DOOM: Eternal.
