Ratatan, the highly anticipated spiritual successor to Patapon, has unveiled its official gameplay trailer, offering a thrilling glimpse into its rhythm-based combat and cooperative action. This article delves into the trailer's highlights and the upcoming closed beta.

Gameplay Trailer Showcases Rhythm-Based Combat and 4-Player Co-op

The trailer showcases intense battles, including an epic encounter with a colossal boss crab. Ratatan seamlessly blends rhythm game mechanics with side-scrolling action, creating a unique and engaging experience. A standout feature is its online co-op mode, allowing up to four players to participate in massive, 100-character battles.

Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and featuring the musical talents of Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan's Kickstarter campaign successfully surpassed its console launch goal, ensuring a release across multiple platforms.

Closed Beta Commences February 27, 2025

Ratatan's closed beta test is scheduled to begin on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates, including over 100,000 Steam wishlists and positive feedback on the original soundtrack demo. While the game won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the beta and plans a refined demo for the June Steam Next Fest.

The beta will initially feature Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 added during the month-long testing period. Beta key distribution details will be announced via Discord and X.

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A precise release date remains unannounced.
