Bethesda has officially launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, surprising fans with its immediate release. However, the announcement came with a significant caveat: the remastered version will not include official mod support. This decision has sparked discussions within the vibrant modding community that has long supported the original game.
During Bethesda's recent livestream unveiling The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, it was revealed that the game is now available for purchase. The developers highlighted the significant enhancements made to the game since its original release. Yet, a notable disappointment for many fans is the absence of official mod support.
Bethesda's support page confirms that Oblivion Remastered will not feature official mod support, and no explanation was provided for this decision. This is particularly surprising given Bethesda's history of robust support for modding, including the release of official tools like the Creation Kits for games such as Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Starfield.
Despite the lack of official support, the community remains undeterred. Modders are already experimenting with the old Creation Kit from the original game, and reports indicate that mods are functioning well with the remaster. On platforms like Reddit, modders are actively sharing tips and strategies for adapting their mods to the new version, which now utilizes Unreal Engine 5.
The absence of official mod support has not stopped enthusiasts from exploring new frontiers, such as playing Oblivion Remastered in VR. Just three hours after its release, fans began using UEVR, a mod tool designed to enable VR gameplay, to experience the remastered game in a new dimension. YouTuber LunchAndVR posted a video showcasing early tests of Oblivion Remastered in VR, using UEVR and motion controls.
The video demonstrated stable performance, running at 70 fps on medium graphics settings with DLSS enabled, on a setup featuring a GeForce RTX 4090, Intel Core i9-13900, and 64GB of RAM. These promising initial results suggest that with further optimization, Oblivion Remastered could offer a compelling VR experience.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (including Xbox Game Pass), and PC. For the latest updates and more information on the game, be sure to check out our detailed coverage below!
