The Nintendo Switch 2 might look familiar at first glance, but recent patent filings reveal some significant upgrades to its Joy-Cons. While Nintendo remains officially silent, leaked reports and these new patents strongly suggest magnetic attachment and surprising mouse functionality.

A Nintendo patent describes a game controller with magnetic mounting to a console, featuring a recess with magnets securing the Joy-Cons. The patent specifies two buttons required for detachment, each magnetically attracted to a corresponding magnet within the console's recess.

The patent also details a novel use for the Joy-Cons: mouse functionality. Illustrations show the controllers used sideways, with the R1 and R2 buttons acting as left and right mouse clicks, respectively. Joystick manipulation may provide scrolling capabilities. The patent depicts both dual-mouse and hybrid configurations (one Joy-Con as a mouse, the other as a standard controller).

Magnetic Joy-Con attachment was among the earliest Switch 2 leaks. The mouse feature, though later revealed, aligns with a January teaser subtly showcasing Joy-Cons gliding like a mouse—a clear hint from Nintendo.
