One of the joys of *Stardew Valley* farming is the adorable menagerie you can gather, including livestock and pets. Did you know you can have multiple furry (or scaly!) friends? Here's how to expand your pet family.

How To Unlock Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley
Starting Stardew Valley, you adopt a cat or dog. Previously, only one pet per save was allowed, but the 1.6 update (early 2024) changed that! To add more, you'll need to meet a few requirements.
First, max out your current pet's friendship. Fill their water bowl daily (except on rainy/snowy days) and pet them once a day (a heart appears above their head). Check their friendship level in the "Animals" tab of the pause menu.
Once maxed, Marnie will email you about adopting more pets. If you skipped the first pet, she'll email you at the start of Year 2.
How To Adopt Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley
After Marnie's email, visit her shop (9 AM - 4 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Choose "Adopt Pets" and browse the 12 available Pet Licenses (cats, dogs, turtles). Each costs a sum of gold.

How To Get Supplies for Pets in Stardew Valley
Visit Robin's shop to craft Pet Bowls (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These are essential—they're your pet's home and prevent friendship decay. Neglecting them can lead to a runaway pet!
Marnie also sells decorative Doghouses and Cat Trees. These don't affect friendship.
