Monster Hunter Wilds simplifies many series mechanics, making monster tracking almost unnecessary. However, there's one exception: the Black Flame. Here's how to find it.
Around the midpoint of Monster Hunter Wilds' main story, Chapter 3, the Black Flame monster appears briefly in the Oilwell Basin before disappearing. Your task: find and defeat it.
Exit Base Camp and head to Zone 9 of the Oilwell Basin (see map below).
Along the way, you'll discover tar tracks. Examining them reveals the Black Flame's trail, automatically alerting your scoutflies. Follow the green scoutfly path to Zone 9, a large flaming crater, to locate the Black Flame.
The Black Flame (Nu Udra) is a tentacled monster wielding fire-based attacks. Prioritize severing its tentacles to expose weaker points, maximizing material acquisition after the fight.
To mitigate the region's intense heat, carry several Cool Drinks to prevent continuous health loss.
That's how to find the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds. Check out The Escapist for more game tips, including Palico language changes and monster capture techniques.
