Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking fans on a thrilling journey set after the Battle of Jakku and the end of the Galactic Civil War. In this new chapter, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are on a mission to establish the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy in turmoil.

The latest volume of Star Wars is penned by Alex Segura, who previously brought us the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries. The artwork for the series is in the capable hands of Star Wars veteran Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Noto and Leinil Yu will also be providing covers for the first issue.

Set roughly two years after the events of Return of the Jedi and following the decisive Battle of Jakku, Segura and Noto's Star Wars dives into a hopeful new era. As the New Republic seeks to cement its position as the new ruling force, our heroes face new challenges from opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other villains eager to exploit the power vacuum left by the Empire's fall.

“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura told StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."

Noto expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”

Star Wars #1 is slated for release on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed to coincide with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.

This won't be the only new comic from Marvel set post-Return of the Jedi. In February, the publisher will launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, a book that delves into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
