NetEase Games is making significant adjustments to the post-launch roadmap for Marvel Rivals, aiming to keep the game's momentum strong and its player base engaged. The company is planning to shorten the duration of its seasons and ensure a new hero is introduced every month. This major shift in the content release schedule was hinted at during the Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, where details about Season 2's new additions were shared.
Season 2, set to launch on April 11, will introduce the new Vanguard hero, Emma Frost, and later in the season, Ultron will join the roster with his class to be revealed closer to his mid-season launch. Both heroes are expected to bring fresh abilities to the game, keeping the excitement alive among players. However, the most significant changes to the gameplay and hero dynamics are slated for Season 3.
In Season 3, which does not yet have a confirmed release date, NetEase plans to reduce the length of seasons from three months to two months. This change will allow for more rapid content updates while maintaining the promise of introducing at least one new hero every half-season. This means players won't have to wait as long between hero releases, starting with the hero following Ultron.
Marvel Rivals' creative director, Guangyun Chen, emphasized the team's commitment to providing a continuously engaging experience. In the Dev Vision video, Chen mentioned that feedback from social media has added pressure to keep the game as thrilling as it was at launch. "Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver fun and engaging experiences for you all," Chen stated. He further added that NetEase aims to fulfill players' fantasies about Marvel Super Heroes by exploring new modes and introducing a diverse roster of characters. The company will adjust its systems to accommodate the increased content flow, with more details to be shared before Season 3's launch.
Just hours ago, NetEase revealed more about Marvel Rivals Season 2, which will shift from its vampire takeover theme to a new storyline centered around the Hellfire Gala. This update promises new outfits, maps, and characters, with further details expected in the coming weeks.
Since its launch in December, Marvel Rivals has been a massive success, attracting 10 million players within three days. The game, a free-to-play superhero team-based PvP shooter, was released on December 6 across PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. On Steam alone, it saw an impressive 480,990 concurrent players at launch, and Season 1 in January peaked at 644,269 concurrent players, ranking it as the 15th most-played game on Valve's platform. However, player numbers have been declining since then, prompting NetEase to adjust its roadmap. Despite the dip, Marvel Rivals remains highly popular and among Steam's top-played games. The upcoming Season 2 and Season 3 are expected to reinvigorate player interest.
