Keanu Reeves offers the most encouraging update yet on Constantine 2, confirming a script is now in the works.

John Constantine, the occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was memorably portrayed by Reeves in the 2005 film adaptation, which achieved cult classic status. For two decades, fans have clamored for a sequel, a desire Reeves has openly shared.

Now, Constantine 2 appears closer to reality than ever before, following a successful pitch meeting at DC Studios.

"We've been pursuing this film for over a decade, and we recently finalized a story and presented it to DC Studios. They responded positively," Reeves revealed to Inverse. "Our next step is to write a script."

While this news is promising, it's crucial to remember that DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran still need to greenlight the script. Constantine 2 isn't officially part of the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran has publicly acknowledged the project. Therefore, its future remains uncertain.

However, Reeves hinted that, if produced, Constantine 2 will remain faithful to the original film's universe. "We're staying true to the original," he assured fans, adding with a touch of humor: "Expect even more torment for John Constantine."

Reeves' announcement follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura in September. Di Bonaventura stated that a Constantine 2 script existed but he was hesitant to read it, fearing disappointment.

Speaking to ComicBook, di Bonaventura said the script was in his inbox, expressing his eagerness for it to be exceptional. "It's in my inbox right now, believe it or not," he stated. "I'm too apprehensive to read it yet; I desperately want it to be amazing. I'll probably read it on my next flight."
