Hideki Kamiya, the visionary behind the original Devil May Cry, has expressed a keen interest in remaking the iconic game. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Kamiya shared his thoughts on what a Devil May Cry remake would entail, emphasizing that it would be a complete rebuild from the ground up, leveraging modern technology and game design principles.
The trend of remaking classic games has seen a surge in recent years, with titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 receiving modern updates. Now, Devil May Cry could join this prestigious list. In a video posted on May 8, Kamiya responded to fan inquiries about potential remakes and sequels. When asked about his vision for a Devil May Cry remake, he enthusiastically stated, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
Originally released in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, significant changes in its development led Capcom to transform it into the action-packed Devil May Cry. Reflecting on the game's origins, Kamiya revealed that the game was born out of personal turmoil. In 2000, after a painful breakup, he channeled his emotions into creating Devil May Cry.
Kamiya admits he rarely revisits his past works, including Devil May Cry. Yet, when he occasionally encounters gameplay clips, he recognizes the game's age and its dated design. If given the chance to remake it, he would start anew, utilizing contemporary technology and design philosophies to bring the game into the modern era.
While Kamiya isn't actively planning the remake, he remains open to the idea. He mentioned, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Additionally, Kamiya expressed interest in remaking another of his classics, Viewtiful Joe. These announcements have sparked excitement among fans, who eagerly anticipate the potential return of these beloved titles in a refreshed form.
