While many of the achievements in *Monster Hunter Wilds* focus on taking down the largest and most fearsome beasts, there's one that requires you to find the smallest creature in the game. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to unlock the "Caught a Shooting Star" trophy/achievement, which is all about capturing the elusive Sandstar.

The "I Caught a Shooting Star!" hidden trophy/achievement stands out for its simplicity yet elusiveness. It can easily slip under the radar if you're not actively searching for it.

To unlock this achievement, you must capture a unique endemic life form in the Windward Plains known as the Sandstar. This small desert mouse-like creature, with its long tail and shimmering fur, can only be found at night in a specific area of the region.

Given that you typically explore the Windward Plains during the day as part of the storyline, you'll need to wait until nightfall. Here are two ways to do this:

  • Fast Travel: This method is available early in the game, as soon as you unlock multiple fast travel points in the Windward Plains. Use your interactive map to access the fast travel menu, and travel back and forth between points until the time progresses to night.
  • Rest: After completing Chapter 3 and unlocking high-rank content, you can rest at a base or pop-up camp. Use your Guild Points to rest and select the desired time of day (Morning, Daytime, Evening, or Nighttime) and environmental conditions (No Change, Fallow, Plenty, or Inclemency).

The Sandstar is not only tiny but also incredibly fast, outpacing even your Seikret at full sprint. To increase your chances of catching it, gather Screamer Pods beforehand. These can be obtained from Baunos, small winged red monsters that roam in groups around Area 11 and Area 13. Baunos are scavengers that often congregate around carcasses, so taking a few out will yield the necessary Screamer Pods.

Once it's night in the Windward Plains, head to the area between Area 11 and Area 13, keeping a keen eye out for the Sandstar. When you spot it, chase it at full speed and be ready with your Screamer Pods. When you're close enough, shoot a Screamer Pod at the Sandstar to stun it.

Quickly switch to your Capture Net (the same one used for fishing) and throw it at the stunned Sandstar to capture it. Upon successful capture, the "I Caught a Shooting Star!" trophy/achievement will unlock, and you'll be rewarded with the Ribbon Dream: Amber nameplate for your Hunter Profile.
