Sandfall Interactive has rolled out Patch 1.2.3 for their acclaimed RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 across all platforms. This substantial update delivers numerous fixes alongside crucial gameplay balance adjustments - most notably toning down a notoriously overpowered character build.
Developers recently hinted this rebalance was coming, initially planning only bug fixes unless glaring issues emerged. "Well, Stendhal did," the team admitted, referencing Maelle's overpowered fencer build.
The problematic build revolved around Maelle's Medalum sword and its Virtuose Stance ability, which initially granted a staggering 200% damage boost. When combined with the Stendhal skill's devastating Void damage, players discovered they could literally one-shot the final boss with billions of damage output.
"We still want players to find creative ways to break the game," explained Sandfall, "but Stendhal made it laughably easy." The patch reduces Stendhal's damage by 40% while fixing an unintended Virtuose Stance interaction that was doubling all damage types instead of just Burn damage.

Despite launching alongside Bethesda's high-profile Oblivion Remastered, Clair Obscur has become a bona fide phenomenon, surpassing 2 million sales. The achievement becomes even more impressive considering it debuted as a day-one Game Pass title.
The game's cultural impact reached such heights that French President Macron publicly praised the development team. New players can consult our comprehensive beginner's guide before diving into this breakout hit.
