CD Projekt Red: Ciri as the protagonist of The Witcher 4 is “organic and logical”

CD Projekt Red has confirmed Ciri will be the main protagonist of The Witcher 4, a decision driven by both narrative progression and the source material. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, leaving Ciri, a character with significant depth and potential already established in the books and previous games, as the natural successor. This allows for new creative avenues and a fresh narrative perspective.

Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's younger age as a key factor, offering greater flexibility in shaping her character arc, a freedom unavailable with the more established Geralt. Discussions about shifting the protagonist began nearly a decade ago, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri as Geralt's heir. Kalemba promises new challenges and perspectives for Ciri, ensuring the new saga will be equally epic.

Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt, supports the change, acknowledging Ciri's rich potential as a central character. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, emphasizing the shift in narrative focus to Ciri's journey.
