Captain America: Brave New World's global box office haul is approaching $300 million, but a significant 68% drop in domestic revenue during its second weekend raises concerns about its profitability. Deadline reports a production budget of $180 million and a break-even point estimated around $425 million. While the film exceeded expectations with a $100 million domestic opening weekend (Presidents Day), its second weekend gross of $28.2 million mirrors the steep decline seen in 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which ultimately failed to recoup its costs.

After two weekends, Captain America: Brave New World has grossed an estimated $289.4 million globally ($141.2 million domestic and $148.2 million international), adding $63.5 million worldwide in its second weekend (Comscore). Despite being the biggest theatrical release of 2025 so far, the substantial second-weekend drop surprised analysts. Comscore senior analyst Paul Dergarabedian noted to Variety that this decline reflects less audience enthusiasm than typically expected from Marvel films, characterizing it as the "new normal" for the franchise. Deadline projects a final global box office gross of approximately $450 million.

The film's release coincided with largely negative critical reception. IGN's review awarded it a 5/10, criticizing its lack of originality and ultimately underwhelming experience despite strong performances from Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Carl Lumbly.

Marvel Studios and Disney are hoping for a resurgence in ticket sales to counteract the negative trend impacting recent MCU films (excluding last year's successful Deadpool & Wolverine), building momentum for the upcoming Thunderbolts in May and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
