Introduced in the *Minecraft* 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, the Armadillo is a passive mob found in various warm biomes. Known for their hard "Scutes," these creatures play a crucial role in crafting Wolf Armor, a new form of protection for your canine companions. Here’s how you can gather Armadillo Scutes in *Minecraft*.
Armadillos are exclusively found in warm biomes, appearing in groups of two or three. They have a unique defense mechanism where they roll into a ball if approached too quickly. To prevent this, approach them slowly and carefully.
You can find Armadillos in the following biomes:
There are two primary methods to collect Armadillo Scutes:
Similar to how Chickens drop Eggs, Armadillos will drop a Scute every 5-10 minutes. This passive method requires no tools but can be slow, especially if you're looking to protect multiple Wolves.
The most popular method involves using a Brush. This tool, typically used for investigating suspicious sand or gravel, can gently extract one Scute per use on an Armadillo.
To craft a Brush, you'll need a Feather, a Copper Ingot, and a Stick, arranged vertically down the center of the Crafting Table. In Java Edition, an unenchanted Brush can be used four times before breaking, while in Bedrock Edition, it lasts for five uses. Damaged Brushes can be repaired by combining two of them, and Enchanted Brushes can be merged at an Anvil to retain enchantments. Brushes can be enchanted with Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing.
Approach the Armadillos slowly to avoid triggering their defensive roll, then use your Brush to collect Scutes. With enough Brushes, you can amass a significant number of Scutes for crafting Wolf Armor.
Once you've collected six Scutes, you can craft a suit of Wolf Armor at a Crafting Table.
These are the current methods to gather and utilize Armadillo Scutes in *Minecraft* for crafting essential items like Wolf Armor.
