The Witcher 4 developers have issued a crucial warning to fans about a widespread beta test invite scam. CD Projekt Red, the team behind the beloved series, has clarified their stance on this issue and shared insights into their bold decision to feature Ciri as the main protagonist in The Witcher 4.
The Witcher 4's developer, CD Projekt Red, has taken a firm stand against a scam involving fake beta test invites for the game. On April 16, they used The Witcher’s official X (formerly Twitter) account to alert the community about these fraudulent invitations.
Their statement emphasized, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. That said, if you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
CD Projekt Red reassured fans that any legitimate future beta tests would be announced through The Witcher’s official channels.
The Witcher 4 was unveiled to the world during the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist. This announcement sparked widespread discussion, as the previous three games in the series had centered around Geralt.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4's Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, addressed the fan reaction to Ciri's new role. He acknowledged the attachment fans have to Geralt but expressed confidence in the team's vision for Ciri. Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4's Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, also expressed appreciation for the fans' passion and support for the decision to make Ciri the lead. He remarked, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
CD Projekt Red has promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment yet, featuring new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not been announced. Stay tuned to our updates for the latest news on The Witcher 4!
