If you're among the numerous fans of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* on PC, you might have encountered more than a few performance hiccups. According to the tech gurus at Digital Foundry, the game suffers from severe performance issues. Video producer Alex Battaglia described it as "perhaps one of the worst-running games I've ever tested for Digital Foundry."
"Even with the most powerful hardware, the stuttering is unbearable, significantly detracting from the overall experience to the point where I'm baffled at how it was deemed ready for release," Battaglia remarked. He further noted that the game is unusually resource-intensive, forcing players to lower settings just to maintain an acceptable frame rate, even if they can tolerate the stuttering.
Given these issues, it's no surprise that the most popular mod for *Oblivion Remastered* on Nexus Mods is P40L0's 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' which has seen an astonishing 386,604 downloads in less than a week. The mod's description reads: "Definitive Unreal 'Engine.ini' changes aimed at eliminating most stutters, enhancing performance and stability, reducing input latency, and improving picture clarity, all without any visual compromise."
P40L0 elaborated, "After months of testing with UE5, I'm excited to share my definitive custom 'Engine.ini' tweaks for the game. My objective was to incorporate as many optimizations as possible across CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD to eradicate most stuttering, boost performance, minimize input latency, and enhance visual clarity by removing Film Grain and Chromatic Aberration, optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling, and more, all without introducing visual loss, glitches, or crashes."

Feedback from users who have downloaded the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stutter be gone! Simply amazing, thanks!" exclaimed chubbyd07. "This .ini is a miracle. From 15-20 fps outside the prison to 65-70 stable. Running on 3600XT and a 2060 with 20GB of RAM (yes)," added yeeto51. "Uhm, what the hell! I went from 60fps on High Preset around Waynon Priory to 90-110fps on the same location. Wizardry!!" said BabaSmith.
Despite the PC version's challenges, *Oblivion Remastered* remains incredibly popular, boasting a high concurrent player peak on Steam and over 4 million players across all platforms. On Steam, it enjoys a 'very positive' user review rating.
However, a recent hotfix released on April 25 has impacted Microsoft Store players' UI settings for graphics, particularly affecting upscaling and anti-aliasing options. At the time of writing, players using the Microsoft Store version (including those on Game Pass for PC) are unable to adjust these settings due to a UI issue. Bethesda has acknowledged the problem and is working on a solution.
