Starbrand is a 3-cost, 10-power card with a unique ability: “Ongoing: Your opponent has +3 Power at each other location.” Unlike Mister Fantastic, who only affects adjacent locations, Starbrand boosts the power at locations where he isn’t played. As an Ongoing card, decks featuring Starbrand often include cards like Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress to counteract his effect.

Starbrand is notably countered by Shang-Chi and synergizes well with Surtur. However, his 3-cost slot makes him a challenging fit in many decks, competing with cards like Surtur and Sauron.

Best Day One Starbrand Decks in Marvel Snap

Starbrand fits well into a couple of existing deck archetypes: Shuri Sauron and Surtur. Although Shuri Sauron has fallen out of the meta, let's explore if Starbrand can breathe new life into this classic deck:

Zabu Zero Armor Lizard Sauron Starbrand Shuri Ares Enchantress Typhoid Mary Red Skull Taskmaster Click here to copy this list from Untapped.

This deck is budget-friendly, with Ares being the only Series 5 card, which can be replaced by Vision. Leveraging Zabu’s ability, this deck focuses on removing negative effects from Ongoing cards using Zero, Sauron, and Enchantress. The strategy involves buffing a lane with Shuri and a powerful card like Red Skull, then using Taskmaster to replicate the power. With Taskmaster's recent nerf to 6 cost, Zabu enables you to play Shuri alongside Starbrand or Ares on the final turns, creating unexpected power spikes. Starbrand's drawback of boosting opponent's locations is less impactful here, and can be mitigated by playing Enchantress right after him, potentially hitting an opponent’s Ongoing card.

With Aero and Skaar recently nerfed, Surtur decks are a promising home for Starbrand:

Zabu Zero Armor Sam Wilson Captain America Cosmo Surtur Starbrand Ares Attuma Crossbones Cull Obsidian Skaar Click here to copy this list from Untapped.

This deck includes four Series 5 cards, with Sam Wilson and Cull Obsidian working in tandem, and Surtur and Ares driving the deck's high-level performance. Starbrand allows Skaar to be played at a reduced cost of 1 by setting up with Ares, Attuma, and Crossbones on turns 4 and 5. Zero helps mitigate the downsides of both Starbrand and Attuma. Even without perfect timing, Zero is a strong final turn play that doesn't significantly hinder the rest of the deck. The key challenge is timing Starbrand's play, ideally after Surtur and alongside Zero and Skaar on the final turn, though this may require some trial and error.

Should You Use Spotlight Cache Keys or Collector’s Tokens on Starbrand?

Starbrand is a "wait and see" card, especially with recent powerful additions like Agamotto and Eson to the meta. Shuri Sauron may struggle to keep up regardless of Starbrand's strength, and Surtur decks' viability remains uncertain post-Aero and Skaar nerfs. If you have the resources, it's best to wait a few days to see how Starbrand fits into the evolving meta.

And those are the best Starbrand decks in Marvel Snap.
