Nintendo Switch 2: Official Reveal Imminent?

Reliable sources suggest the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially unveiled on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This aligns with previous reporting indicating mass production began in late September/early October 2024, and Nintendo's self-imposed deadline of March 31st, 2025, for an announcement. The timing also echoes the original Switch reveal, which also occurred on a Thursday in 2016. This information comes from NateTheHate, a well-known and reputable leaker, and has been corroborated by other sources, including The Verge's Tom Warren.

Extensive Leaks Precede Official Announcement

The Switch 2's specifications and design have been widely circulated through various leaks for months. The sheer volume of leaked information is so substantial that Nintendo even addressed a replica console, a rare acknowledgement of such leaks. Rumors point to a slightly larger device than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm), featuring an 8-inch LCD screen and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons. The right Joy-Con is reportedly adding a new "C" button, the purpose of which remains speculative, possibly related to a rumored mouse-like pointer function.

Launch Titles Remain Enigmatic

While the hardware details are relatively clear, the Switch 2's launch game lineup remains shrouded in mystery. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario have been confirmed for the console, neither is expected to be a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo will likely leverage at least one or two major first-party titles to drive early adoption.
