Netflix Games' Squid Game: Unleashed gets a release date and a new trailer!
The mobile adaptation of the hit show, Squid Game: Unleashed, will launch on December 17th for iOS and Android. A new trailer showcases the game's violent, yet arguably humorous, take on the original series' deadly games.
The game pits players against friends and strangers in a recreation of the iconic, chilling death games from the show, adding some new twists for good measure. Whether this approach is successful remains to be seen, but it clearly aims to capitalize on the immense popularity of Hwang Don-hyuk's creation.
Launching just before the December 26th premiere of Squid Game season two, Squid Game: Unleashed could be a significant win for Netflix. Pre-registration is available now!
A Game of Irony?
The adaptation of a show centered on the dehumanization and exploitation of individuals into a competitive multiplayer game is certainly ironic. However, from a purely business perspective, it's a logical move. Netflix seems to have recognized the potential of a dedicated multiplayer audience to retain users, even if they aren't engaged with other aspects of the streaming service.
While you wait for the game's release, consider checking out other recent releases. Jack Brassel's highly positive review of the relaxing gardening simulator, Honey Grove, is definitely worth a look.
