Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Following significant player backlash, Mountaintop Studios, the developers of the newly released online FPS Spectre Divide, have announced price reductions for in-game skins and bundles. This adjustment comes mere hours after the game's launch.

Price Cuts and Refunds

In response to criticism over high prices, game director Lee Horn revealed a 17-25% price decrease across weapons and character skins. The studio stated, "We've heard your feedback and are making changes," promising a permanent price reduction. Furthermore, players who purchased items before the price adjustment will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.

This refund also extends to those who bought the Founder's or Supporter packs and subsequently purchased items like Starter packs, Sponsorships, or Endorsement upgrades, which remain at their original price points.

Mixed Reactions

While some players welcomed the price adjustments, the overall reaction remains divided, mirroring the game's currently "Mixed" Steam rating (49% Negative at the time of writing). Negative reviews flooded Steam following the initial launch. One player on X (formerly Twitter) expressed gratitude for the developer's responsiveness, stating it was "a start," while another suggested the ability to purchase individual items from bundles.

Conversely, other players expressed disappointment with the timing of the price reduction, suggesting the change should have been implemented before launch to avoid negative publicity and potential long-term damage to the game's player base in a competitive free-to-play market. Concerns were raised about the game's future sustainability given this initial controversy.
