Renowned YouTuber Shirley Curry, widely known as Skyrim Grandma, has embarked on a new adventure with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, guided by her supportive chat community.
In her video ‘Oblivion Remastered #1 Learning,’ shared with her 1.3 million YouTube subscribers, the 89-year-old dives into Bethesda’s newly released remaster after completing the tutorial area.
“Hello, grandkids! Welcome to Oblivion Remastered,” Curry greeted. “I’ve finally escaped that grim jail, dungeon, and sewer maze you trudge through before stepping into the open world. This is my first glimpse of it.”
Curry faces challenges navigating Oblivion Remastered, seeking chat’s advice on switching to third-person view and mastering the game’s controls, movement, and mechanics. Lockpicking, as expected, proves tricky—but who doesn’t struggle with it?

In her second video, ‘Oblivion Remastered #2 Still Learning,’ Curry continues adapting to the game. “You’ll probably hear plenty of my grumbling,” she remarked while navigating a cave filled with goblins and giant rats.
Throughout, fans offer valuable tips to ease Curry’s early hours in the game.
“Wow, Grandma Shirley! Welcome to TES4!!!” one fan commented, earning a ‘heart’ from Curry.
“On a keyboard, switch to third-person by clicking the mouse wheel. On a controller, it’s like Skyrim: click the right joystick. Lockpicking in Oblivion is tough! I spam auto-attempt until level 10. If lockpicks run dry, head to Nocturnal’s Shrine for her quest to earn the unbreakable Skeleton Key, making auto-unlocking easy. Open lock spells exist, too, and the Tower Stone—similar to Skyrim’s standing stones—grants a daily lock-opening power. Activate it at night; it glows near the Imperial City’s Waterfront.”
Another fan advised: “Great to see you getting the hang of it, Shirley! Use the wait function to pick your time of day, but not near enemies.” Curry thanked them for the tip.
Last year, Curry announced she’d retire from gameplay videos after nine years, citing a loss of enjoyment. Clearly, her passion pulled her back.
Curry’s legacy in The Elder Scrolls community is undeniable. She’s earned widespread admiration from fans and Bethesda alike. After a fan petition, Bethesda confirmed Curry will appear as an NPC in the eagerly awaited The Elder Scrolls VI.
While The Elder Scrolls VI remains years away, Skyrim Grandma has plenty to explore in Oblivion Remastered.
