Ubisoft is setting the stage to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most expansive year yet for the pirate multiplayer game, with significant content updates including new game modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and the much-anticipated feature of land combat that fans have been eager for since the game's launch.

During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its ambitious plans for the next year of updates. The presentation was filled with exciting content announcements, but it was Season 3: Guts and Glory that stole the spotlight with the promise of land combat. Set to launch this fall, Season 3 will introduce the Rogue Warlord additions, allowing players to step onto sandy beaches and into damp caves to engage in swordfights and use firearms against others, all while rescuing skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse of this new feature, though full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat is the headline addition for Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase promised a wealth of content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, launching today on April 15, introduces a new item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new medium ship called the Schooner, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set to arrive this winter, will introduce the Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

If the announced updates sound appealing, players won't have to wait long to dive into the action. Ubisoft is hosting a free weekend for Skull and Bones from April 17 – 21, offering an opportunity to experience pirate PvP firsthand and purchase the game at a yet-to-be-announced discounted price.

Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, the company reported "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
